An old stone building, surrounded by a sea of centuries-old olive trees overlooking a crystalline sea, has been transformed into a contemporary holiday home offering every comfort. Richard, Lamia Porta Rossa’s ownwer, has chosen this corner of Puglia for the moments of rest and relaxation it offers, but also for days full of fun and exploration in the towns and beaches nearby.
If you’re looking for a place both to relax and to be amazed, Lamia Porta Rossa is perfect for your vacation in Puglia: a terrace that overlooks the Adriatic Sea, a hammock suspended between ancient olive trees, an outdoor kitchen under the starry night sky, a gazebo in the middle of an herb garden and the breeze that carries the perfume of the sea, inviting you to idle the days away. It’s an oasis located in a truly enviable position: a countryside studded with venerable, almost sculptural olive trees; a seaside just five kilometers away; close to the lively town of Fasano, the city of olive oil, and the coquettish little port town of Savelletri; near the White City of Ostuni; steps away from Egnazia, one of the most important archeological sites in Italy; accessible to golfing at San Domenico, an eighteen-hole golf course positioned on an undulating green that faces the sea; and a few kilometers from the seaside towns of Monopoli and Polignano a Mare, the home of Domenico Modugno of Volare fame.
There is something for everyone at Lamia Porta Rossa. Even if you decide to explore the nearby Adriatic beaches and the picturesque villages of the Itria Valley, you will surely end up spending at least some of your time enjoying the country air and the serenity found here, far away from the crowds.
And you will instantly empathize with Richard: the first time he came to Puglia, it was love at first sight. Within a year, he had fallen for this rural stone building and its little red front door. Renovation incorporating a modern, relaxing design began immediately, all the while maintaining the utmost respect for the true protagonists of the land: the red earth, the olive trees and the sea.
The color red is the dominant thread that links Lamia Porta Rossa’s past to its present, characterizing the interior furnishings and the structure itself. Red is the color of the original entry door, which has been maintained; red is also the new volume that plays with the whitewash of the antique walls.
The traditional structure, from its pure, essential lines, serves as a shell for the home’s contemporary internal character. The red door opens into an open space bathed by light and embellished with antique arches typical of the most authentic Puglia. The heart of the house is the kitchen, from which there is an open view to the living room, dining room, bar and mezzanine that houses a sitting room. The house grows in height, culminating in a rooftop terrace, a secret refuge from which to admire the sunrise, the sunset and full moon nights.
Lamia Porta Rossa exists somehwere between heaven and earth. And the nearby sea is a perfect accomplice for a holiday in pursuit of Italy’s famous dolce far niente. Can you smell the perfume of the breeze? Let yourself go . . . and reserve Lamia Porta Rossa immediately!
