    Property

It is a happy moment when you wake up underneath a warm, intimate cone-shaped trullo roof, thinking about the nearby sea while sipping coffee in the shade of a four hundred-year-old carob tree. We are in an ancient trullo next to a stupendously blue sea… are you wondering where it is? This time we’re not in the Puglia of trulli but in the Puglia of Frederick II’s castles—like the enigmatic Castel del Monte—and of Romanesque cathedrals. There is a splendid example of one perched on the edge of the sea in Trani, which is not far from this trullo.

Trullo (A)mare is a cherished place among its owners: brothers Enrico, an architect; Mario, a philosphy teacher; and Angelo, an engineer. Starting with a group of family trulli situated on a gentle sweep of land dotted with untouched Mediterranean flora just a few steps from the sea, the brothers offer guests rural hospitality along with the exquisite enjoyment of nature in its purest form. Just 100 meters away from the centuries-old stone buildings, there is a gently sloping, pebbled beach with sun-kissed water to explore, along with figs, wild peaches, pomegranates, prickly pears, an organic garden and aromatic herbs depending upon the season.
The love of nature, history and Apulian culture shines from the attention to detail infused in every aspect of Trullo (A)mare. The result is a restoration respectful of local tradition and the elements of that tradition that are dearest to the owners. Above all, their love for the land as reflected in Trullo Amare’s interior design style is characteristic of those who hold Apulia and its sea in their hearts.

The trullo’s decor is expressed through rustic found objects from Apulia’s antique markets accented with natural elements offered by the sea. A tree branch washed up on the nearby shore was transformed into a bedroom lamp. Old oars became the bed’s headboard. An antique wooden table used to make bread and pasta now provides support for the bathroom mirror. An old enamel tub with a marine-blue border functions as a washbasin in the second bathroom. And table bases have been fashioned from newly-painted, wrought iron structures used traditionally to dry clothing over the charcoal braziers that were staples in these country homes in the past.

Do you feel the soul of this place? It is difficult to say goodbye when you leave, entranced by the blue of the sea and the sky, by the intense perfume of the native Mediterranean vegetation, by a lightness that leaves you suspended, bewitched . . . It is the perfect place to indulge in a vacation that remains in your heart literally every moment, long after you return home.
